"Earth and Sky" was the theme of an international exhibition-competition, and my pastel drawing and watercolour painting of "Sunset over Scarisbrick" was awarded an "Honorable Mention".

Another set of entries into the latest Fame Frame international exhibition-competition, and another "Honorable Mention".

This time the theme was "Earth and Sky" so I entered a trio of cloudscapes. All three made the final selection of entries but this one, "Sunset over Scarisbrick", got the Hon Mention certificate.

It is a combination of watercolour and soft pastel and was inspired by some photos taken by my sister, Caroline Murphy, from her stable yard in Scarisbrick, Lancashire.

The clouds were stacked up in tiers of colours floating across the sky in waves but it was the lower tier that fascinated me with its range of imagery – if you look at it using the creative right hemisphere of your brain you can see the pyramids at Giza, the Bridge of Sighs, and Nessie disappearing out of the left of the picture!

The Hon Mention certificate talks of the picture as being "a thoughtful and impactful contribution" and says the certificate marks the work's "exceptional quality and meaningful relevance to our time".

This work and the other two cloudscapes (below) are all in the Fame Frame's gallery at https://fameframegallery.com/ex/earthandsky
